The ASU Turkey Day Classic Celebrates 100th Anniversary

The ASU Turkey Day Classic Celebrates 100th Anniversary

tdc logoOn November 28, 2024, Alabama State University will again make history with the centennial celebration of one of the University’s most beloved and longstanding traditions.

The 2024 Turkey Day Classic football game will enter the record books as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, with the theme “A Legacy of Gold: A Centennial Celebration.” The Turkey Day Parade celebrates its 88th anniversary.

“This year, it’s about more than football for Alabama State University; it’s about a celebration of unparalleled tradition,” said ASU President Quinton T. Ross, Jr. “The Turkey Day Classic is always an exciting event for Hornets fans, but this year promises to be electrifying!”

The TDC rivalry, one of the oldest HBCU football classics in the nation, and the parade have been a long-established holiday season kickoff that draws more than 30,000 fans and supporters to The ASU Stadium to witness the classic showdown.

“Alumni from across the country are coming ‘home’ to witness the long-awaited return of the showdown between the Hornets and in-state rival, the Tuskegee Golden Tigers,” said Amber Douglas, ASU’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

The Turkey Day Classic parade begins at 8 a.m. in downtown Montgomery. Thousands of spectators are expected to line up along the Dexter Avenue route to cheer as a dazzling array of incredible marchers, floats and marching bands pass by.

“The TDC Parade is one of Montgomery’s largest annual events,” said Douglas. “It is one of the most impactful examples of the CommUniversity for ASU.”

The football game will kick off at 2 p.m. at The ASU Stadium. The game is the 100th Turkey Day Classic game and marks one of the oldest traditions among historically Black colleges and universities.

The two teams last met in the Turkey Day Classic in 2023 for the first time since 2012 and have met in the Classic on all but 12 occasions all-time.  They have battled on the football field 102 total times in series history.

“In 2022, Tuskegee and Alabama State agreed to resume their rivalry in 2023, renewing one of the oldest college football rivalries for three years, including the 100th Turkey Days Day Classic this year,” said Dr. Jason Cable, vice president and director of Athletics.

Alabama State University has events planned all week leading up to the big game against Tuskegee University. A full schedule of the events will be announced soon.
